Hello

My name is Will Murray, but I am known online as Willscrlt practically everywhere. For more information about me, you can visit [WWW]my home page. To contact me for matters specific to WikiSpot, please leave a message on my talk page here. For time-critical issues, please leave a message on my Wikimedia Commons [WWW]talk page or send me an [WWW]e-mail.

Wiki history

I registered for an account on the [WWW]English Wikipedia on June 15, 2006. I made a few contributions prior to registering, but I do not remember what or how long ago. I am also a frequent contributor and editor on the [WWW]Wikimedia Commons, [WWW]Wikimedia Meta-Wiki, and the [WWW]English Wikibooks.

I found the [sacramento]Sacramento Wiki Spot wiki while researching a Wikipedia article on the [sacramento]Westminster Presbyterian Church. I have long felt that there is a need for more localized wiki information for things that Wikipedia does not consider notable enough to feature, yet are very relevant to the lives of people locally. It is very nice to see that Wiki Spot not only accepts that information, but encourages it. It is unfortunate that Wikipedia uses GFDL licensing instead of Creative Commons licenses, because it would make sharing of content between the two sites much easier. As you will notice below, I multi-license all my contributions both on Wikipedia and here, so my edits at least can be copied freely to practically anywhere.

Background

I have been using computers since sometime around 1980. My first computer was an Atari 1200XL, followed by an Apple IIgs, then an Apple Macintosh IIci, and then an old and abused Intel 80286-based PC (very briefly until it died). From that point on, I've stayed with MS-DOS and then Windows-based computers. My first online experiences were made using a 1200 baud modem on my Apple IIgs. I was a charter member of America Online (before it became known as AOL), and I became active in the local Bulletin Board System scene. While in college, I was a Sysop of a fairly popular BBS. That introduced me to people who were putting together the first public regional Internet access (later to be known as a community Internet Service Provider). My first professional development experiences involving the Internet were developing gopher pages and later HTML pages for the ISP. Later, I branched out into my own Internet and graphic design business. From there I moved into computer consulting. In early 1999, shortly before the dot.com bubble neared bursting, I relocated to Sacramento, California to help start an online auction company that lost funding by October of that year. Since then, I have been doing computer network integration and consulting work.

Licensing

For complete details about how I license my contributions and my attribution requirements, please refer to my [WWW]page on Commons, substituting Wiki Spot (and all of its related wikis) with any references to the Wikimedia Foundation or specific WMF sites. At some point, I will either modify that wording to be more inclusive or write a more specific version for use here.

Here is a summary of the information:

Specific licenses for original written contributions:

This is a Wiki Spot wiki. Wiki Spot is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that helps communities collaborate via wikis.
